Please go to therapy or tell a trusted person because this is some of the worst stuff I’ve heard. I think if you want children this is usually not something to worry about but I would go to therapy first. I wish you the best

it seems like a common experience.  when i think back im not entirely sure what was kids being curious and what is considered assault. it was beyond me until i got a lot older that the anxiety i felt around those experiences was for a reason, that they made me extremely uncomfortable and confused for a really long time. i used to laugh at the media that discouraged inappropriate touch because it felt elementary and pointless but i think its because i was so young when that was a “normal” thing, and it did happen multiple times. 

there was a point where there were kids who weren’t having those experiences who felt left out or undesired, and then went on to also act out sexually in school. i don’t know if it’s because of the area i grew up in but it’s very concerning now that im adult. that kind of thing should not be happening with children.

Omg I'm not the only one? It happened to me from ages 4 to 8- always the same boy. He was caught when I was 5, no one ever talked to me about it. He kept doing it to me until I was 8. I have been feeling so much shame around this my entire life! When I told my therapist about it- she told me it wasn't a big deal and that since little boys don't have a fully matured genitalia it didn't count as SA. I have never talked about this to anyone ever again.

When I told my therapist of being 8 and having an older cousin assault me, he said at that age, children shouldn’t know what sex meant. That my older cousin must’ve been SA’ed himself. He was a year older than I was, but tbh… with access to the internet and having no lock on mature content, they’d watch that nearly every night. Maybe they learned it from there. Maybe someone did it to them, so they’re doing it to you. It was common for me, but not for a lot of other kids (adults now) that I know today.

I’m really sorry you had to go through that too. You should’ve been protected and given support when that cousin and all others have assaulted you. There’s this book, “Truth and Repair” by Judith Lewis Herman that talks about how the amount of support you get from your family determines how intense your cPTSD symptoms are. Maybe her book can help. I’m doing EMDR specifically to process those memories now.

Joining into this chat. It started young for me too. The neighbor kids would hold me down so a younger neighbor boy could give me “the treatment”. I was him looking at my belly button. But being held down like that, started a real fear of being held down. That went on for far too long. Then my sister’s older friend came into my room and “felt me up”. I froze I didn’t know what to do but try and wait it out. I never told my sister until about 3 years ago.

When I was in 8th grade I got “gang bang”. there were only hands, no genitalia, but again being held down by boys and having their hands all over me. It still haunts me to this day (I’m 59). These assaults for me were in the 70’s and there was such a “kids will be kids” attitude. I too was afraid to go to the doctor cuz I was pretty sure there was something wrong with me.

I’m currently in an IOP for depression, anxiety and trauma trying to settle those triggers that still arise in me.

I recently had been wondering similar things, so I did a little research. In all likelihood, the prevalence is much much higher than will ever get captured because of the nature of being a child. Nothing is really normative yet, so almost anything can be to a kid, even if it seems outrageous later on.

I was exposed to pornography very early (like three or four years old) and I just wanted to share what I'd seen with one of my friends when I was like seven... It wasn't malicious or anything, I just thought it was something that people did with people they liked... 

I was also molested/sexually abused by my mother around the same time... 

I just didn't have the means to explain myself to anyone. I wasn't even given the chance to... They moved away shortly after everything happened and I never actually saw any of them again...

Yes. Started being molested by the kids next door when I was 3. The oldest was 17 and the youngest was five. Every single one of the kids and their cousins messed with me except for one sister. There was something wrong with that whole family. 

When I was 10, in a new neighborhood, the boys that lived by me would harass me and my best friend. There was a lot of sexual coercion. When I was 14, every single one of my friend's dads hit on me or touched me, and I couldn't walk down the street without grown men yelling at me from their cars. I've effectively been told that I'm only good for one thing my entire life.

The child who SA me was the older son of the cleaning lady. The adult was the best friend of one of my oldest brother (10+ years older than me).

This happens, but is rare. We are more likely to be victims in this sub for obvious reasons, but our experiences are uncommon. I think the best way to avoid this is knowing the character of those who are around you and your children. Besides those two beasts, I met many children and was never in danger.

This is sort of similar to my experience. My first experience of this was when I was really young. I don't remember how old, but I remember the boy's mother getting really upset and I started crying. 

In my family we would always play "house". I hated it. My older sister would dry hump me when I was 3 or 4. A boy that I used to be babysat with used to make me kiss him and would also dry hump me. My male cousin (2 years older than me) would make me give him oral. My younger female cousin would also dry hump me. The same happened to my younger brother and sister and we all kind of keep it a secret.

I learned about sex far too young, but it could have been prevented. In all those situations one important factor was missing, a responsible adult. If you have children do not leave them out of your sight, even if they're playing with other children.

When I was 9 a neighbor boy my age  forced me to French kiss him (I’m a woman) and then asked me to get in my underwear and he laid against me a moment. I was living with my very strict military uncle and aunt and didn’t feel comfortable telling them as they likely would have insulted me and blamed me.
In middle school I had a girl that would sometimes bully me pin me down and rub against me and another did as well. 
One of my female cousins also slightly touched me when I was 8. I never talked to anyone about those outside of a partner or two. 

Noone  tells you what to do if it happens. 🫂 It makes me wonder how many of them may have been abused.

No it's not a remotely normal experience, thankfully. The bad things you experienced, through no fault of your own, were not normal. The world is better than that and you're not the only person who thinks it's wrong and you're not unusual for being negatively affected by it. It's believed in the UK (where I live) 1 in 20 (5%) of children are sexually abused to any degree and stats in other countries will be similar. So that alone tells you it's not common (plus people have different specific experiences of sexual abuse).

The only part that is very normal is that you thought it was normal because it's all you knew and it was just part of what you though life is like. It's normal for people to normalise abuse they grew up with. Many may have doubts, because how can something that feels so horrible be normal? Because if sexual abuse in the family or from other kids is normal, how can people talk positively about family, mixed-gender schools or speak about "carefree childhoods"? Some people fully find out when they're kids that it's not normal, but some don't find out until adulthood - and both are normal situations and not your fault. It's totally understandable to not have known.

You deserve to get help, to help you make sense of things and to move forwards.

I can't say if this is common, but I can say I've had a similar experience. I was repeatedly molested as a young boy, and for the longest time I thought it was normal... Even reading later in my adolescent years that it should be dismissed as boys would experiment with one another.  But, the age differential was off by as little as a year, and as much as 10-11 years (e.g., I was 6 and the other boy was 16-17).

There were a few attempts on me, I will admit, the worst being when I was 9 and 10 (except when I was 10, it was my adoptive dad. Luckily I managed to get away before he could do anything. Often passed comments and had a knowing leer on his face, but that was the only time it got physical). Nearly always slightly older boys from school. I’m sorry it also happened to you. My first experience with that was just the start of my issues, was a two year when a girl a few months older introduced me to hetero sex. Then I had a male cousin of my mom's when he was a teenager at the age of six. It seems like not only adult abusers but other children who were abused that are similar are attracted to folks who are easy prey.

Not by multiple children, but yes I was assaulted as a child by another child the same age when I was 5/6. 

My mom knew something was wrong because my whole personality changed. I became very withdrawn and anxious. I was also getting constant UTI’s. My mom took me to my pediatrician and a counselor, but no one ever could determine what was wrong. I just don’t think the warning signs were as straightforward 30 years ago. 

This all happened at school during nap time, in a room with 18 other children and at least one teacher when the lights were off and we were supposed to be napping. I remember feeling immense shame but had no idea how to connect everything at the time. After being with my husband for 8 years, I finally told him, as the first person I ever admitted this to. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of me. I used to think about it and feel such deep shame and guilt. Eventually I told my mom too. I feel such sadness for the little girl I was who had no idea how to articulate what was happening. I can still feel the pain in my chest 30 years later. It was paralyzing shame. 

Looking back now, I don’t blame the girl, obviously to SA other kids in kindergarten, it was happening to her at home. I do think there have been some serious long term effects of this abuse.

I have just recently learned that my brother also must have experienced something similar, but I don’t know any details. I think this is so much more common than people realize, but a lot of people don’t admit to what they’ve been through. If you’re reading this and you experienced something similar, you are not alone and this is not your fault.

In 2nd grade a fellow classmate had a crush on me. He would slap my butt in front of the whole class throughout the whole school year. I was developing a chest in 2nd grade and he would cup my chest and this made me feel so disgusting to just wear a tank top. I was also bullied physically  by my classmates. I never understood why. Yeah, this isn’t normal kid behavior. The humping would be one thing if he was 1) older and 2) simply doing it to appease himself and this new bodily function he just discovered by chance, but the fact that he is filming himself doing it is extremely concerning. The first thing I think is where on earth would’ve gotten the idea to film himself because the likelihood of a CHILD conjuring up that idea on their own is……..yeah. Children having access to and watching porn is also just a huge red flag in and of itself. I’d definitely inform an authority figure of the behaviors you’ve seen. I pray it’s nothing, but the odds of that….are probably close to zero. At the very least, these kids are being exposed to things they have absolutely no business whatsoever being exposed to.

IMO, this behavior is not normal for a child — this only happens when these actions have been introduced to the child by an adult. a clear sign of sexual abuse toward children is children exhibiting sexual behavior themselves. you’re right in being concerned and should probably report it to child protective services

Gathering evidence should be done by a professional. The mother should not try to do that herself. If it is gathered in the wrong way it may not be admissible as evidence against him in court, and it may compromise the case. The mother should report everything as soon as possible. Doing that through an advocate organization is often a good idea as they can help her understand the process and keep her informed in a way that the police likely will not.

It's also VERY important that the mother (and any other friends/family) not ask the kids any more questions about the abuse at all. There are social workers who are professionally trained to interview kids about abuse in a way that is most likely to elicit the truth while also being the least traumatizing to the kids. Any questions asked by non-professionals can make the kid's statements less likely to be useable in court. 

I'm guessing this advocate organization is one that helps with interviewing kids. That's another good reason to go through an organization like that instead of going straight to the police. The police are not always trained as well on how to interview kids.

Listen bro. You're young and she's young. Without making any assumptions, I have had my fair share of such stories growing up. More often than not, people like attention and its not uncommon for people to make up such stories to gain attention, cope for some other familial problems or for whatever reason.

Now, its also not uncommon for girls of that age to be exploited sexually by their own family members. However, there is no way to verify this and all you can do is give her the benefit of doubt.

DO NOT GET INVOLVED.  Guide her to approach child helpline , inform her mother regardless of the consequences and involve other adults. Tell her to study and get into a good college and move tf out and then pursue legal actions. Till then , take all measures to avoid this heinous act by the father by approaching child helpline and making sure he fears law. Maybe try to record it or something. 

The point being, don't get involved directly. Its not yohr battle to fight. Be a supportive friend and focus on yourself because for the off chance it blows back or turns out to be a sham, you'll be mentally, emotionally and in extreme cases physically mistreating yourself.

As she’s a minor she needs to involve an adult, to lodge the FIR with the police. If mom/ sister aren’t ready to help with that then NGO worker would help to lodge the FIR. Take her to a NGO and they will help her including counsel her first and give her courage. 

It’s important to teach her father a lesson and keeping quiet for the sake of family income is the worst thing they can do. Her mom, sister and even she can easily take up jobs when father gets arrested, why to depend on a monster for financial support? Sure it will be tough but isn’t working to earn a living better than getting raped by your father?

These are very serious allegations and FIR should get registered and father will be arrested without “proof”, all she needs to do is gather courage and narrate the incidents of sexual assault in detail and cooperate for medical examination. In most cases of rape there’s no video/ photo evidence but the victims statement corroborated with medical examination report (which would show multiple injuries to private parts) becomes the evidence.

This is actually very common. Not trivialising rape but it indeed is very common in Indian households for sure.

My schoolmate was raped by his own cousin brother when he was barely 12 n he 28. Nothing happened nobody got caught. That's India for all you sanskaari types.

As for this case please get the guy arrested immediately. Government foster homes are no good tbh but at least daily rape is hopefully not happening.

OP I understand and sympathize with your friend. There are 2 ways she can go about this issue.

The first is obviously filing a police complaint and register an FIR against the father under POCSO act. Hire a good lawyer who can help and guide your friend to do this. This is the correct way to go, just because the father is the only earning member in her family does not give him the right to sexually abuse and rape his daughters. The mother is also as guilty as her father for negligence and for turning a blind eye to the misdeeds of the father.

Ask if your friend has any relative who is a good and decent human being with whom she can go and live. She will have to explain her situation and her horrible ordeal to the relatives who can support her in this situation.

Second option is this, the concept of emancipation from parents is not prevalent in Indian Law. However she can seek a separation from parents or change of guardianship.

We all can understand her situation...
Pretty tough to even try to take any legal action against her own father...
He, being the sole earner in the family.
You could imagine, although she knows what her father had done to her was horrified, terrible,filthy and most importantly inhumane naturally..
One has to also understand the family background of the girl, their family relations, the parents and children relationship...There are many² cases where this same incident took place and 80% of them happens to be in remote areas ,.
One thing I observed is that most of the victims are not brave enough to face the consequences after they start initiating legal action against the culprit... which in fact led them to live a life full of depression, fear and anxiety throughout her lives 
This type of mindset,  holding fear in your life is more dangerous than death itself ..such type of act is too dirty in the eyes of society...
My advice to this young lady is to remove her fear,her way of thinking, perhaps her perception towards her father,,,no matter what it takes of you to overcome those obstacles ... living in the dark in spite of you knowing so well that it wasn't for your good...
You should imagine how could you live this way,.I hope there will be a lot of people who are also willing to help you out...

Tell an adult. Have you told your parents yet? You are still very young and will need the help of adults. Please tell your parents or a teacher/principal at school and have them help you go to the authorities. Your friend is suffering and needs help and you have to tell adults and get their help. Hopefully she will be able to get help from family and dad's savings to run the house but what is more important is that your friend is safe and away from her father.

First take her to a psychiatrist and therapist. Not legal advice, but this should be an utmost priority. She needs some support and professional help here. Maybe the therapist can convince her to do the right thing and give her courage and show her the way to overcome this. I hope you read this somehow with so many comments here.

Tell your friend to woman up, and instead of crying feel the emotion She's supposed to feel here- RAGE. Next time he touches her, bite his dick. What's he gonna do? Run while he's groaning. He tries to hurt her again, hurt him back. Keep a knife with herself.
